IFC-based BIM infographics and visualizations

I want to explore different ways of visualizing and understanding the information contained in BIM. This project will likely be about building a website which you can upload an IFC model and produce several different visualizations of the data contained. Extensions could included aggregating data from multiple models, or ability to provide custom visualization code. I'm not interested in rendering the model directly, instead producing infographics and other information-dense visualizations of the data.

I'm mostly a software engineer, so I'll be more than comfortable building the website and the visualization code, likely using node js and D3. Would love help from people with experience using IFC or BIM and some ideas for what would be fun to visualize. Or anyone who wants to learn about building and serving a website and/or using D3.
